Figurative Language Fun

At Harrison Park Elementary School, the fifth-grade students in Miss Simpson’s class completed a lesson on figurative language with a group assignment to brainstorm their own restaurant.

Spearheaded by Student Learning Assistant, Miss Alyssa Curran, the groups were challenged to take what they learned about different types of figurative language and describe various elements of their restaurants. The students created their own menus and had to use figurative language to describe their food or drink options.  At the end of the experience, the groups were encouraged to browse their peers' cafes and restaurants.

“The students loved participating in the restaurant tour and ‘sampling’ each restaurant their classmates created,” commented Miss Curran. “They crafted Google reviews for each menu and picked which item they would have ordered.”
