Students in Mrs. Caruso’s first-grade class at Harrison Park Elementary School are enjoying new books for guided reading groups. “The students learn and read so much better when they read books they enjoy about characters they like and are familiar with,” commented Caruso. “My classroom library contained many single books, but not enough copies for use with a reading group.”
Caruso raised funds through DonorsChoose, a crowdfunding platform for teachers, to obtain sets of books with 6 copies of each title. “We have begun using them and I am already seeing a difference in my class,” said Caruso. “My kids are very excited for guided reading time and they look forward to using the new books!”
