Students in Penn-Trafford’s elementary schools enjoyed a fun music lesson incorporating boomwhackers, which are tuned percussion tubes.
Mrs. Andrea Frescura, a music teacher in two of the district's elementary schools, enjoys the lessons with the boomwhackers, commenting “This is always such a highlight for the students!”
Frescura’s classes begin by listening to the story of Peer Gynt. During the story, they pause to listen to the song In the Hall of the Mountain King by Edvard Grieg, and it allows them to listen and imagine what might be happening. The class then decodes the rhythms of the song so that they can tap and sing along to it. Finally, the class plays along to the music on their boomwhackers.
