Students Have a Blast at Science Club

During an after-school science club, fourth-grade students at Harrison Park Elementary School had a blast learning all about volcanoes and their eruptions.

Mrs. Jasiewicz, a Student Learning Assistant, spearheaded the activity with the assistance of Student Learning Assistant Mrs. Spittler and long-term substitute, Mr. Barnes.  The activity began with reading and discussing the historical fiction book I Survived the Eruption of Mount St. Helens, 1980.  Next, the students learned how to create their own volcanoes with common household materials, and even recreated lava explosions.

“The students thoroughly enjoyed this experience,” said Mrs. Jasiewicz.  “With so many natural phenomena to explore using the I Survived book series, we look forward to future exploration and experiments in this club.”
