Mrs. Stacie McDermott, a Reading Specialist at Harrison Park Elementary School has been organizing the school’s Book Club for the past 13 years. Students and their families have always looked forward to the biannual event, which includes dinner, book discussions, themed crafts, and time to enjoy the company of friends.
Although the December club was moved to a virtual event due to COVID, students still eagerly participated in the activities. They were able to choose from five book titles based on grade level and interest. Books were sent home to be read with families along with the materials needed to complete book-themed projects.
Teacher Mrs. Allie Kleinschmidt, Library Aide Mrs. Jodie Hayes, and Student Learning Assistants Ms. Maddie Spittler, Ms. Jessica Hartner, Ms. Kelsey Majiros, and Mrs. Teresa Jasiewicz created projects and activities to go along with the books. Projects included Blizzard in a Jar, Grasshopper Jump, Build a Covered Wagon and more.
Students sent in pictures of completed activities to share with their friends and classmates.
