Graphic Novels Enrich Student Learning

Mrs. Kelly Pratt, a second-grade teacher at Harrison Park Elementary School, recently received funding to bring a series of graphic novels to her classroom.  The funds came from Donors Choose, an online charity dedicated to empowering public educators to enrich student learning.  Pratt’s grant, ‘Graphic Novels Take You on an Adventure in Reading,’ provides novels that are especially targeted for boys.  "In years past, it was difficult to find a book series that attracts the boys to reading,” said Pratt.  “Graphic novels fill that need.  With fun illustrations and more action, these novels are a big draw in my classroom.”

Pratt has received funding from Donors Choose for a number of projects and is very grateful for the additional resources for her classroom.  “Through many generous donations, I have been able to bring so many wonderful books, math activities, and STEM resources to my students that I would never have been able to do without their generous support for public education.”
